McDonald’s has applied for a license in Maharashtra to open its first restaurant in the state, the company said in a statement.
It will open in the southern city of Mumbai in the coming months.
The company had earlier applied for permission from the state government to open a franchise outlet in Andheri.
The application was rejected last month by the Maharashtra government.
McDonald’s India said in the statement that the company will open its new restaurant in Mumbai “as a first step towards a broader and broader range of opportunities” in the Indian market.
The new franchise will allow McDonald’s to serve “a diverse customer base” in Mumbai, it added.
